| About Arabic | The Arabic language is a Central Semitic language, with a total of 500 million speakers, 280 million of which are native speakers. Arabic is the largest language(number of speakers) in the Semitic family of languages. The majority of the native speakers live in the Middle East, and Northern Africa. There are many different varieties of Arabic, but not all are mutually intelligible. Classical Arabic was the only language to survive in the Old North Arabian dialect group, which is what to modern standard Arabic is derived of. Many languages in various language families have taken words, or "borrowed" words from Arabic. Although, Arabic has also borrowed words from Hebrew, Persian, and Syriac. There are three main variants of Arabic: - Classical Arabic - Classical Arabic is used from the Pre-Islamic Arabia period, and is the type you will find in the Qur'an.
- Modern Standard Arabic - Modern Standard Arabic is the type used most often in current times, and is used in Arabic media, news, and publications.
- Colloquial Arabic- Colloquial Arabic refers to the numerous regional or national varieties
